PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
